We saw her coat hook, cubby and chair. We found out that she will be the Captain of her table for the first week. Can you believe it? She will LOVE this and will certainly be disappointed to realize it is only a one week appointment.
Learning "Captain" duties. "This is how you tell me your table is ready to listen. Your hands are folded, your mouths are closed and your eyes are on me," Mrs. Kremers said. This reminded me of my own Kindergarten experience at MacArthur Elementary School with Mrs. Bishop. I felt like a 5-year-old as I admitted to Mrs. Kremers that my Kindergarten Report Card said, "Margie thinks Kindergarten is a time to talk with her friends." (Can't say I disagree with that line of thinking even now. Socializing has always been important to me! :) )
Each child was supposed to bring a small box for their crayons and markers. We decided to decorate a shoe box. As we walked through Hobby Lobby looking at supplies, Charlotte would tell me which things were her "style" and which were not.
As you can see, the resulting masterpiece is certainly full of .... STYLE. Mrs Kremers said she had never seen a supply box quite like it before.
We both felt loved and welcomed. The Principal and the Assistant Principal met Charlotte and told her they had been praying for her while her Daddy was sick and since he died. I looked over her class list and noticed there was one other child with only one parent. I am heartbroken to go through this milestone of childhood without John. As Mrs. Kremers said, "I think God will let your Daddy look down from heaven and see your first days of school." I wonder if Charlotte feels "different" from other kids or if that will slowly emerge as everyone shares about their families.

Charlotte,
I taught elementary school for 10 years and never saw a back-to-school box as beautiful as yours! It reminds me of YOU!
Blessings on you as you start your first year of school, Beloved One!
Love,
Your Crazy Aunt Sally
Definitely a rock star supply box.
Margie,
I am so happy to read that Charlotte's whole school is behind her in prayer. What a difference it will make in her school year!!! I had a student last year that lost a parent the summer before school started and her father never mentioned it until halfway through the school year. We had no idea what was going on and it made things so much more difficult from story time to family projects. Having an understanding and supportive teacher that is in the loop is a blessing!! We'll be praying for Charlotte in her first weeks. Judging by that box I think it's safe to say that she'll have an absolute BLAST!
Love you guys!

Margie,
I love seeing Charlotte's face with that beautiful box. She's a handful, like her Mama! I wish I knew her... but hopefully one day we can get our munchkins together.
Thank you for sharing this milestone with US. I feel honored to follow along.
I'm praying for you. May God continue to provide for you all day long, all night long, all week long, all year long. He's good at that.
Love you much,
Michelle
John would have LOVED this milestone because school was always so important to him, and learning was a hobby....we love you Charlotte and look forward to hearing about your fun times with your teacher and friends. Mimi and PawPaw
That is a masterpiece of a supply box! I bet all the other kids in the class are going to wish they had one as nice. Charlotte, I will be praying for you and your mom that your first day of kindergarten will be really special for you, and that you will know that your Daddy is watching you and smiling from heaven, knowing that his little girl is going to be a blessing to and be blessed by those around her.
love,
Marilyn
Watch out mommy....bring some kleenex for that first dropoff......I thought I had emotionally processed this master milestone before my daughters first day and when I went to bring her everything went as planned until I; last minute, went to snap a quick photo before my quick goodbye.......as I looked through the lens at my daughters consuming smile amongst her classmates suddenly I was overwhelmed with the irreversable transition in her life and mine that was taking place and I froze with tears running down my face trying to get myself to push the button on the camera.......I apologized to her teacher and gave her a quick hug intensly aware that she had already engaged with the kids around her and backed out of the classroom with the mixed emotions of joy and sorrow.
Now I am not an expert on these things but I am an electrical engineer and if there is any profession that should be able to manage their emotions in an intense moment like this it is us EE's (electrical engineers) so be prepared with some kleenex and maybe some waterproof mascara. :)
Praying for you regularly

Take lots of pictures that first day of school! I love those first day pictures...
We love you all and miss you. I wish I'd had a chance to say hi this Sunday.

I was looking back at Owen's journal and saw that he and Charlotte were baptized together. It has me praying for her with newfound fervor... and for you.
Blessings,
Annie
Margie -- Charlotte is SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I loved the picture of her with her teacher, showing her how to indicate her table is ready to listen. Just from reading about Charlotte in your blogs, I can tell she probably LOVED being Captain!
Cheers,
Debbie
